Toyota to Use Sanyo Batteries in Hybrids

I read a recent press release indicating that Toyota Motor Corp plans to source lithium-ion batteries from Sanyo Electric Co for its popular hybrid cars that run on gasoline and electricity.

Apparently, Sanyo's lithium-ion batteries are lighter and more powerful than the nickel-metal hydride ones currently installed in Toyota's popular Prius and other hybrid models.

Yes, and shares of Sanyo are loving that news, shares were up 17 percent at one stage.
Shares of Sanyo ended up 14 percent a few days ago at 256 yen while Toyota rose 1.7 percent, mirroring a rise in other auto stocks....
