The size is less than 4 kW. The area on the ground at less than approximately 375 square feet. A solar system fits in an available area on the ground with minimal shading - at a different cost and structure than roof retrofits. The requirement would be a minimum of 3 foot side and rear yards are allowed when the structure is set back a minimum of 50 feet from the front property line. However, at least 70% in rear of the yard would remain open, if a requirement of the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
